Car & Van Rental in Oxfordshire?
Oxfordshire is a county in the south-east of England, known for its pretty countryside and charming historic towns – including, of course, the university city of Oxford itself. Oxford is full to the brim with museums, galleries and similar attractions, as well as many fine pubs, cafes and restaurants for some time out. When it comes to countryside, the Oxfordshire Cotswolds is an incredible area of rural heritage and natural beauty, with honey-coloured towns and villages, picturesque streetscapes, rolling hills, charming gardens and historic castles and monuments.
Enterprise has several branches throughout the county – at Didcot, Cowley, Botley (Oxford), Bicester, Banbury and Kidlington (Oxford Airport). A good selection of vehicles is available at all of these centres, and visitors to the area can even browse online before their journey to check which is the most convenient pick up and drop off point. Flexible options mean that vehicles can be picked up at one location and dropped off at another if required.
Our Vehicles for Hire in Oxfordshire
We have a great range of vehicles available, from small economy cars to large premium vehicles, people carriers, vans and 4x4s, depending on individual requirements. The range of vehicles on offer is fairly standard throughout locations, although if a particular model or type is required, checking in advance will prevent possible disappointment. Enterprise prides itself on exceptional customer service and will go the extra mile to ensure customers are matched with the most appropriate car for their needs.
Available vehicles range from Class A Mini vehicles, such as a Toyota Aygo, and Economy vehicles, such as a Vauxhall Corsa, both of which are suitable for four passengers or smaller families. Large Compact and Intermediate cars can also be hired, such as a Ford Focus or Skoda Octavia, which have more room for luggage. Other options include Standard and Small Premium cars, such as a Vauxhall Insignia or Mercedes C-Class, which combine extra room with luxury.
Attractions in Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire is a county teeming with popular attractions. Lovers of heritage and history will find plenty to occupy them in the many old towns and villages, including Oxford, Abingdon, Burford, Henley-upon-Thames and Witney. The Cotswolds is an area steeped in history and rural charm.
Must-sees include Blenheim Palace. This magnificent 18th century palace was the birthplace of Winston Churchill and is now a World Heritage Site, ideally situated within 2,000 acres of Capability Brown-designed parkland. Highlights include the formal gardens and Great Hall. Blenheim Palace is located in Woodstock, just 12 miles off the M40 and 8 miles from Oxford.
Another sight that should be high on every visitor’s list is the Ashmolean Museum. It is located in Oxford, being the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology. The Ashmolean is a historic and venerable institution, founded in 1683, with diverse and internationally significant collections including ancient artefacts from most of the world’s great civilisations, and contemporary exhibits telling stories of the present day. Other museums and galleries in Oxford include the Story Museum, Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford Town Hall and the Museum of Oxford, and the University Museum of Natural History.
There are many parks, gardens and country houses in Oxfordshire, including, in Oxford, the gardens of the University Colleges and Oxford Botanic Garden, which is the oldest botanic garden in the UK and presents many features including exotic glasshouses, water gardens and colourful borders. Outside of the city, there are country parks such as Shotover and Stonor, delightful gardens such as Waterperry, and historic properties such as Broughton Castle. These are easy to reach by car.
Those looking for family fun and outdoor magic will do no better than the Cotswold Wildlife Park, an amazing safari-style park set in the attractive landscaped grounds of a historic country house. Rhinos graze on the formal lawns, while the Tropical House in the Old Walled Garden is home to sloths and colourful birds. There are over 260 animal species, daily talks, a fantastic children’s playground and much more. Cotswold Wildlife Park is located just south of Burford, off the A40.
Places to Visit Outside Oxfordshire
With its central location, it’s no surprise that attractions just outside of the county are also easily accessible with a hire car in Oxfordshire. The Cotswolds extend into neighbouring Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Wiltshire, and there are many beautiful towns and villages in these counties, together with majestic country houses and gardens, such as Hidcote Garden, Snowshill Manor and Garden, Newark Park, Dyrham Park, Croome, and Hanbury Hall and Gardens.
Airport Car Hire
Scheduled flights from Oxford Airport are limited and visitors are more likely to arrive in the region via one of the nearby airports such as Birmingham or London Heathrow. Both of these also have Enterprise kiosks with a good selection of vehicles available for hire.
Parking and Traffic Information in Oxfordshire
Parking is available at all major attractions based in the countryside, while there are also good parking facilities in most of the towns and villages.
